Mike Recommends That You Backup Your Files

Why do so many people never backup their files? Every week I see computers in my shop that have a failed hard drive. Most of the hard drive failures cause total loss of the photos, documents, music, email, etc. After a hard drive failure is not the best time to try to save the files, without a recent backup, the files could already be gone! Sometimes I have to be a grief counselor, LOL.

Here is how I can help you to backup your precious computer files:

Carbonite Online Backup

Mike’s Computer Repair is an Authorized Reseller for Carbonite Online Backup. I will install Carbonite Online Backup and configure it when my customers purchase it from me. Carbonite is completely automatic, and best of all, your files are safely stored off-site in case of fire, theft, or any other causes of loss. Read more about Carbonite in the article below.

Use a free backup program called FBackup

I will install this FBackup program and configure it when my customers purchase a USB flash drive, or USB external Hard Drive from Mike’s Computer Repair.

FBackup from www.fbackup.com is a free backup software for both personal and commercial use. It protects your important data by backing it up automatically to any USB/Firewire device, local or network location. Never backup your files to the same drive! I suggest using a USB flash drive, or USB external Hard Drive to store your backups. Then use FBackup wizard to select a backup job. The backup type I use is a mirror backup and I select the user account for the sources so that all the photos, documents, music, and email will be backed up. At the last step of the wizard, you can make a daily or weekly schedule, or you can skip the schedule section. If you do not want to backup on a timed schedule, you can simply open the program and select “Run Backup” whenever you want. You could even rotate more than one USB flash drive, or USB external Hard Drive, then store the drive off-site in your safety deposit box at the bank.

What is Online Backup?

Online backup solutions provide protection for your computer files so you can get those files back in the event of a data disaster – saving you time, money and stress. Unlike other antiquated methods of data backup – such as external drives & CDs – there’s no hardware to buy, no cables to connect, no training or maintenance required.

Why Carbonite?

Carbonite gives you secure, automatic offsite backup that protects your files from accidental deletion, spills, theft and just about anything else that could harm your data. Once installed, Carbonite backs up your files to the cloud – so you can get them back when you need them most. Because Carbonite works continually, backing up new and changed files whenever you’re connected to the Internet, you can rest easy knowing your backed up files are always protected.

Since 2006, Carbonite has backed up over 200 billion files and today, backs up more than 300 million files each day! Most importantly, Carbonite has restored over 7 billion files that otherwise would have been lost forever.
