How to get the Windows 10 update now

Have Mike Install Windows 10
Windows 10 is available now. Bring your computer to Mikes Computer Repair and let our experts install Windows 10 for you. Before we install Windows 10, we will verify compatibility, clean the dust, check the hardware, check for viruses, uninstall old software, advise you about backup and antivirus options.

Upgrade with the Microsoft’s Get Windows 10 app
If your version of Windows is eligible, you should see that a Windows icon has appeared in your task bar. Clicking on the icon will open up Microsoft’s Get Windows 10 app, which allows you to sign up to download the new OS and determine if your computer is compatible. Enter your email address into the system, and from there you’re pretty much set. Now you just have to wait. Later on you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade. The upgrade will be released to select batches of users, not all at once. The wait could be weeks for some users.

Should I update?
Windows 10 is free. It is designed to be compatible with the vast majority of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices — so your device is most likely compatible. We have upgraded dozens of computers new and old and have not had any problems. Mike is already using Windows 10 on his personal laptop. So far, the programs we normally install have all been compatible. Our recommended antivirus software works on Windows 10. But if you have lots of specialized programs like some business software, it might be wise to wait at least a few months. If you have an old computer with Windows XP or Vista, or an old laptop that gets hot; Mike’s advice is don’t upgrade and just buy a new one.

Is my computer eligible?
The only requirements are that a) your device is compatible, and b) you’re running genuine Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 8.1 (Update). You can only upgrade to Windows 10 free if you do so within 12 months of release (that’s July 29th 2016). Upgrade outside this period and you will have to pay the standard retail costs: $119.99 for ‘Windows 10 Home’ and $199.99 for ‘Windows 10 Pro’.
